2015 Speaker Proposals Reopened for Substitute Speakers
Orchestrating the Common Core Classroom
Welcome to the California Mathematics Council South website for prospective speakers.
If you wish to submit one or more proposals to speak at the 2015 Conference then please follow these three steps:
STEP ONE:
Read carefully the information on this page (or download a pdf version for later reference). The information summarizes the CMC-South selection and reimbursement policies.
STEP TWO:
Prepare your responses to the proposal questions before you select the button at the bottom of this page that will take you to the online proposal form. Download the questions or read the questions on the next page. Avoid the frustration sometimes caused by browser timeouts. Some of your responses will be limited in character length. Some questions may require information not readily available to you and may require time to research.
STEP THREE:
Select below the button and link to the online proposal website. All proposals must be submitted online by May 1, 2015.
Proposals submitted after May 1, 2015, will be considered as a possible substitute if a regular session is cancelled.
STEP ONE: Speaker Information
Read this important information before you submit a proposal to present a session at our 2015 Annual Mathematics Conference in Palm Springs. All proposals consistent with the mission and goals of CMC-South will be considered. It is recommended that you print these information pages for your future reference. At the end of this page is the button “Step 3: Online Proposal Form” that you click to begin entering your proposal information. It is highly recommended that you prepare your answers (Step 2) before you access the proposal form.
If you are an experienced presenter, CMC-South encourages you to support the mentoring and development of new speakers and future leaders. Consider selecting as a co-speaker an individual who has not presented at CMC-South and has some prior speaking experience. Both speaker and co-speaker are expected to plan together and be active presenters during the session.
The Program Committee considers a number of variables to build a balanced conference program. All proposals are considered and appreciated. Unfortunately, not all proposals can be accepted and included in the program due to limited available space. Prospective speakers should be aware of the following guidelines and expectations for both speakers and co-speakers:
Speaker Proposals
The Program Committee requests that all presentations explicitly address in the presentation and in the session description the 2014 Conference Theme:
Orchestrating the Common Core Classroom
All proposals must be submitted online by May 1, 2015. All sessions are 90-minutes in duration.
(Proposals submitted after May 1, 2015, will be considered as a possible substitute in the event a regular session is cancelled.)
Speakers who have presented the same session two or more years at CMC-South are encouraged to submit proposals and present ideas, strategies, research, or resources that are new or substantially updated.
Proposal Selection and Notification Procedure
No online proposal will be received between May 1, 2015 and May 31, 2015. Proposals received after May 1 will not be placed on the preliminary conference program and are not likely to be included in the final conference program. Late proposals will be regarded as “substitute” proposals that may be utilized to replace a canceled session provided the presenter is still available to present. Substitutions for canceled sessions are normally added between September 15 and October 15.
Speakers who submit a proposal will be notified via e-mail by June 2015, whether one or more of their proposals are included or not included in the conference program for 2015.
If you do not receive notification by July 1, 2015, then contact a member of the program committee or the program committee chairs: Brian Shay at (mr.brian.shay@gmail.com).
The Program Committee has prepared guideliness for the proposal selection process. Visit our webpage for suggestions for proposal preparation.
